An abundance has been stated in the press not long ago about the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the internet version of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its land based opposite?
Bingo is an classic game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law across United Kingdom.
No more will enthusiasts be allowed to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public area will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored places where people enjoy smoking.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the industry is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?
The answer is on the internet. Players are now realizing that they can play bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the social portion of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with no alternative.
